Trex Community Challenge

Trex Community Challenge

  • Trex makes eco-friendly composite decks from an innovative blend of 95% reclaimed wood and plastic film. Trex buys the plastic items from grocery stores with whom they have a contract including many nearby stores.
  • Warm Herth Village participates in a program sponsored by Trex called the "Trex Community Challenge". Participants collect plastic films and donation them to Trex. When a certain amount of film has been donated, Trex donates a bench to the participant.
  • You may have noticed certain benches around the village that have plaques marking them as "Trex Benches." These are the result of past participation in the Trex Community Challenge. So far, WHV has contributed enough plastic film to have been given 9 benches (as of 2023).
  • More details about what plastic films can be donated can be found here and here.
  • A video of the process can be viewed here.
